From today's NYT "My Contractor Says My Bathroom Will Be Out of Commission for Weeks. What Can I Do?," a solution to the where-do-I-shower question:
David Cafiero, a designer, offered his client Chloë Sevigny, the actress, a measure of convenience during construction by rigging a large $120 galvanized tub from his shop, a circular chandelier frame and a waterproof Jolly Roger curtain into a temporary shower, above, in her kitchen. Ms. Sevigny could stand in the tub, draw the curtain around her and use a hand shower connected to the kitchen faucet. [...] Since the tub was too heavy to lift when it was full of water, Mr. Cafiero also supplied an electric sump pump (IntelliPump by Flotec; $159 at the Home Depot) to push the water back up into the sink.
Sadly, there is no equally jaunty solution offered for the where-do-I-do-my-business? issue. I suppose we could have run the Jolly Roger up the portajohn to alert the neighbors to the possibility to hazardous winds ahead, but ... no.
