Erin and I went to the Venice Farmer's Market yesterday morning. The experience surely counts as some sort of food porn, with all the produce brazenly flaunting its ripeness, its heady aromas, and in the case of free samples, flavors so intense, my mouth nearly cramped after my tastebuds went into overdrive.
I ended up with quite a haul for $30 -- 3 pints of bing cherries, 6 pints of strawberries, 1 pint each of raspberries, blueberries and blackberries, 2 bunches of asparagus, a pound and a half of green beans, 6 luscious ripe tomatoes and a bag of worm castings to be used as fertilizer on my herbs and vegetables. I bypassed some incredible peaches only because I feel like I'm up to my neck in fruit this week. But next week, I will be bringing home the peaches. Oh, yes.
Strawberry pie, strawberry soup, handfuls of cherries for snacking ... God, I love summer eating.
And if you think my raptures over fresh produce are bad now, wait until I manage to get my tomatoes and bell peppers to fruit. It'll be bruscetta recipes for a week on here.
