... let's talk remodeling porn. It's what I turn to every time I feel faint over the crazy California real estate market.
Renovation/remodeling stories are fascinating for the mix of mental and physical skills they require -- and addictive, owing to the "I can do that!" fantasies they inspire. Actually, simply contemplating other people's renovation projects can be heady -- when Monkey Ben bought his lovely estate last year, I was all, "Call us! Any time! We'll help you landscape! We can paint! Please, let me live vicariously through your house!"
(Phil was all, "Who is this we you keep referring to?" He is immune to renovation madness.)
Heather and Jon Hamilton's kitchen renovation is a perfect example of the smarts and knuckle grease required to get the job done, as you'l see if you read the entries documenting their work(here, here, here and finally here, with a photo gallery you have to see to believe).
But my newest fix: J &A's House in Progress (found via Apartment Therapy). They bought an old bungalow which was a) in terrible condition, and b) crammed full of other people's crap. They're now renovating. I'm totally hooked on this site. You should go read it too.
Curse you, Lisa... I will never be free from the thrall of that site, now!
